Jiu Zhai Gou

Jiu Zhai Gou lies in north Sichuan Province, 45 kilometers away from Nanping County Town.

The area is about 60,000 hectares. Because of the inconvenient traffic, few people had visited the great mountains of the area. There're nine Tinbetans once lived here and this is why it is called Jiu Zhai Gou.

Jiu Zhai Gou is a deep valley of Mt. Minshan and looks like the letter "Y". The valley is about 40 kilometers long and its elevation is from 2000 to 3000 meters. Jiu Zhai Gou is near the another famous scenic area Huang Long Temple, actually both of them are called " the heavenly scenery on earth".

There're tens of graceful peaks around the valley and more than 20,000 hectares area of Primitive forest in it. There're 108 lakes in the valley which was called Hai Zi by the Tinbetans. Some lakes are more tens of meters deep but they are pretty clear that you can see their bottoms from the surfaces.

There're stones in the bottom which are the homes of the alga. In the sunshine, you'll find the images of the alga and trees become colorful on the surfaces of the lakes and are really beautiful!

Green lakes, colorful woods, a great many falls, ever snow peaks and the custom of the nine Tinbetan villages are the five attractions of Jiu Zhai Gou Scenic Area.

Now, let's have some details of the three mane valleys of Jiu Zhai Gou.

Shu Zheng Gou

Shu Zheng Gou is the main valley of Jiu Zhai Gou, the main attractions are: Potted Landscape Beach, Reed Lake, Spark Lake, Shu Zheng Fall, Rhinoceros Lake and Nuo Ri Lang Fall. It is about 14 kilometers long.

Spark Lake is a magic place that when the wind floats the water, the surface will have a series of sparks.

Shu Zheng Fall is near the Shu Zheng Zhai village and about 7 kilometers long with more than 40 lakes in it. The lakes stand lower and lower that look like a stair. The water flows along the "stair" and becomes a lot of falls. The highest fall can be 30 meters and the lows are only one or two meters.

Nuo Ri Lang Fall is different because of the water falling like stairs. The fall is 140 meters wide with the water falls from the hill which is more than 100 meters high and looks really graceful.

Ze Cha Wa Gou

Ze Cha Wa Gou lies from Nuo Ri Lang Hotel to Long Lake, which is about 17 kilometers long. The wonderful views here are: Seasonal Lake, Multi Colored Pool and Long Lake.

The Long Lake is 7.5 kilometers long from south to north and 500 meters wide. It is the biggest lake of Jiu Zhai Gou with more than 80 meters deep. The snow and the spring water from the mountains around flow into the lake.

Because there is no exit, the only way for the waters to go away is seep into earth. It is really interesting that the water level won't change what ever the hurricane or drought comes and the trees around the lake are ever green. In winter, the ice above the lake is at least 2 chi thick and the area becomes a silver world. What a wonderful lake!

The colors of the Multi Colored Pool are quite special: On the top, it is green and blue and at the bottom, it becomes orange.

As to the Seasonal Lake, the water level will change in different seasons: during the wet time, it is high; the dry time, it is low.

Ri Ze Gou

Ri Ze Gou lies from the Nuo Ri Lang Fall to the Ri Ze Gou Hotel. It is 9 kilometers long. The attractions during the valley are: Pearl-beach Fall, Colorful Lake, High Fall, Panda Lake, Arrow Bamboo Lake and so on. Pearl-beach Fall, High Fall, Colorful Lake are most famous.

The water of the Pearl-beach Fall flowing from the giant precipice that looks like a clear pearl curtain. It will remind us the poem: " the silver flowers fall like a great many pearls".

The High Fall is the highest fall in Jiu Zhai Gou. It has three "stairs" and is 65 meters high.

The view of Colorful Lake is charming that in deep places the color is deep green and in low places it is weak green. The beautiful colors and the brilliant corals at the bottom make become a colorful world, so it is called Colorful Lake.

Besides the valleys, there is another scenic spot named Arrow Cliff. It is located in the south of Ri Ze Gou and its elevation is 2900 meters. The attractions of the spot are: Swam Lake, Hanging Spring and Primitive Forest. If you go to the place, you'll get a primitive and mysterious feeling.

When you arrive in Chengdu, there will be direct bus waiting for you the next morning. If you are fond of the natural beauty, you can spend a week enjoying it.
