Shanghai Wildlife Zoo

The Shanghai Wildlife Zoo at Nanhui is the first national wild animal park established by city government of Shanghai and the National Forest Ministry.

Located 35 kilometers from downtown Shanghai, in Nanhui District, near Pudong Area. The 3100 acres wildlife preserve, which allows visitors to view herds of exotic animals as they might have been seen in their native Africa and Asia, it opened to the public in 1995.

Did you have the experience of the safari life? Shanghai Wildlife Zoo provides you the opportunity to go into their large animal enclosures, where you get an up-close-and-personal look at the free-roaming animals.

As you will see, although the large field enclosures allow the animals to roam freely in herds, the Wildlife Zoo also has many attractions, which allow for truly interactive experiences.

The large enclosure makes it possible to maintain animals in their natural herd structure. Therefore, the animals you see still keep their special wild characters, which you cannot see in other zoos.

The Wildlife Zoo collects it animals from all over the world, currently the collection of animals contains more than 10,000 different kinds of endangered animals, species and subspecies.

Among them over 200 are extremely rare and precious, like white rhinoceros, hunting leopard, giant panda, snub-nosed monkey, south China tiger, Asian elephant, and other domestic rare animals.

There are two exhibit areas in the zoo: bus tour area and walking area. There are herbivore zone, free zone, aquatic bird's lake, birds' zone, animal kindergarten, pet monkey's park, rare animal's park, animal performance zone, sea lion performances zone and other spots in the Park.

Entering the bus tour area, you will get an up-close-and-personal look at the wild animals of Asia and Africa. Giraffes stretching others' necks over the bus; sun bathing lion; African elephant, greeting at the tourists; leopard, hunting for foods; north China tiger come up close. Do not forget to bring your camera, this is a great opportunities to take some amazing pictures.

In the walking area, you can get close to many gentle animals, such as Australian kangaroos, Asian deer's, African ring-tailed lemurs, and yellow and blue parrots from South America. You can even take pictures together with rare and wild animals, such as lions, tigers, bears, leopards, and elephants.

In the animal kindergarten, there are lovely small animals for you a hold. You can also enjoy the exciting shows at the Wildlife Zoo, look at many fascinating animals performed comedy, demonstrate behaviors that feature their strength, intelligence and versatility.
