(This is a kind suggestion presented by AlpStyle Travel (www.alpstyletravel.com), just for your reference.)
Travel expenses include 6 parts, which are transport, accommodation, meals, admission, souvenirs and other unpredictable costs.
The approximate costs that AlpStyle Travel provides consist of transport (excl. transport between your city and starting & ending point of the itinerary) and accommodation. Other expenses are more depending on individual’s habit so we could not give you a certain figure.
Although it is hard to tell how much to spend on the rest parts, we can still give you a rough idea of the costs.
Meals
In the southwest and northwest part of China, which incl most of the hot attractions within China, like Xinjiang, Tibet, Yunnan, Guizhou, Guangxi, etc, the standard of living is relative low compare with other big cities China. You can make a budget on CNY30-50/p/day. But if most of your staying are in big cities, you should make a little bit exceed, or if most of your time spend in the remote villages or in the desert, and you can hardly find restaurant on your way, then you can lower your budget.
If your itinerary covers high level big cities, like Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou, etc, then your budget should go to CNY60-80/p/day.
If you are going to Taiwan/Hongkong/Macau, the expense on meals will go much higher than they are in mainland China. CNY100-150/p/day would be a radical budget if you travel alone and do not want to treat yourself unfairly.
Admission
This is a main part of your travel expenses. AlpStyle Travel lists the admission cost in the “key word” introduction in the itinerary information. So just pick up where you want to pay a visit and add the admissions together.
Souvenir
This is a more individual expense, some spend a lot on gifts for friends and relatives, and others spend nothing on them. So make your own budget according to your habit.
Unpredictable cost
This is a crucial part in your travel budget. In an unfamiliar place, you are going to face a lot of unexpected situations. So leave some money on these things are fully necessary. Let’s say 5-10% of your total budget would be radical.
How to bring your money with you
In most of cities in China, hotels, shops and restaurants accept credit card, but in other small towns, you have to pay in cash. So if you stay in big cities, like Beijing, Shanghai, etc, you can just leave a small amount of cash with you. On the contrary, if you are going to remote place, you’d better bring more cash with you but remember to keep them in a safe place.
