Fuhu Temple

Situated on the Emei Mountain, the Fuhu Temple is one kilometer away from the Bao Guo Temple and it is the largest temple on the Emei Mountain.

The mountain shape in front of the temple resembles a lying tiger, so this is how the Fuhu Temple got its name.

Built in Tang Dynasty, the Fuhu Temple originally called "God Dragon Hall". It is said that in Song Dynasty and when it was repaired and enlarged, people all thought its name should be changed into "the Fuhu Temple" because the nearby mountain is like a lying fierce tiger very much.

In 1651, the abbot named "Guanzhi" built a "Huxijing House" near the temple. When the monk named "Jiyuan" became the abbot, a number of monks planted altogether 110,000 evergreen arbors such as hazel, Nan, China fir, and cypress around the temple.

After the trees grew up, the succeeding abbot beautified the temple yard environment. Presently the Fuhu Temple claims to the title of "lying tiger hiding in thick forest".

The main construction of the Fuhu Temple is "the Precious Hall of the Great Hero", in its left is "the Yu Chu Building", and in right is "the Huayan Pagoda Pavilion". With 13 layers and 5.8 meters high, the copper tower built in Yuan Dynasty is behind the pavilion. The eight angels of this tower body are symmetric, on the tower body there carved with splendid Buddhist scriptures "the Sutra of the Master of Healthiness".

People who have been to the Fuhu Temple of the Emei Mountain often wonder the difficulty of constructing this temple. Because of the temple location, adding layers and layers towering ancient trees ringing around make many constructors praised the temple builder "Bravo!"

From the Fuhu Temple continue climbing up to the Emei Mountain, you will come to "the Stalagmite Gully", "the Voiceless Pavilion", and "A Ray Sky". Finally, you will arrive at the quiet and graceful "Hongchun Land". The scenery on this side of the hill is so beautiful, and is hard for the visitor to absorb all at once.

After traveling the Fuhu Temple to "the Hongchun Land", climb up again, you will find the mountain road is much stranger. Walking 99 bends to the "Xianfeng Temple" and "Washing Elephant Pond", perhaps you will meet the monkey crowd because the monkey crowd often appears in this place.

The monkeys here are used to seeing the visitors, so they not only will not run away, but also will ask visitors things to eat impolitely.

Climbing up carefully, you will ascend the golden top of the Emei Mountain. Standing on the golden top and overlooking the distant scenery, you will see the layers and layers peaks embracing at the foot of the Emei Mountain. Looking east, you will find the Qingyi River, Daduhe River, and Minjiang River. Looking west at the year round snowcapped Mt. Gongga and Mt. Snowcapped, the snow is of a great momentum.
