Tashilhunpo Monastery

The Tashilhunpo Monastery lies on the foot of the Niseri Mountain of the southwest Xigaze City and people called Zhasi for short. It is a large monastery in Tibet.

To the Tibetan it is as important as the Potala Palace in Lhasa. It was list into the Chinese emphatic preservation of cultural relics in 1961.

The Tashilhunpo Monastery means the auspicious Xumi Mountain in Tibetan. The monastery covers an area of about two kilometers with walls all around and against mountain and water. The Tashilhunpo Monastery is the auspicious place praying for people like grand and solemn Buddhist cattle.

Built in 1447 and the 1st Dalai Lama named Gendunzhuba (1391-1474A.D.), who was the disciple of the founder of Yellow Communion Zongkaba in Tibet, took charge of funding the construction at that time. It is the place where the Banchan had religion activities.

"Qiangba Palace" is the center of the whole monastery, built in 1914. The world-famous large copper statue of the Gautama is enshrined in the monastery. It is 26.2 meters high, its shoulders are 11.4 meters wide, its ears are 2.8 meters long, its hands are 3.8 meters long, and its nostril can contain a people, and made in the beginning of the 20th century.

There are tens palaces in the Tashilhunpo Monastery and four scripture institutes. A large scripture palace can contain 2,000 Lamas reading scripture. In the palace, there are murals, statues, and portraits of Zongkaba and his disciples.

In the monastery, there are god towers of successive Banchan, wrapped with silver leather and decorated with gemstone of different colors. They all look very solemn and beautiful. Additionally, there is an "inland palace". It is the place where the official of Ch'ing Dynasty read emperor's order.

In it, there are gold and jade seals and lawsuit imperial order books of two emperors of Ming and Ch'ing Dynasty and the seal of Dasitu in Yuan Dynasty carved Basiba language. There are statues of Buddha with different appearance, reel Buddhist paintings and rare curios in all the palaces.

The Tashilhunpo Monastery has a long history, Buddhist scripture, and very rich Buddhist statues. It is very important in Tibetan lives and becomes a spirit guide in their hearts because it made many efficacious on politics and religion.

Including the beautiful landscapes here, the age-old construction art and the Buddhist cultural relics are all attracting a large number of foreign and domestic visitors.
